Kevin Byrne
Twenty years ago, Kevin visited Andalucia and became entranced by flamenco music. He set about teaching himself to play and over the next years developed a unique style characterised by its inventive rhythmic fluidity and evocative lyricism.
Alongside flamenco Kevin has continued to explore all sorts of music, especially jazz, folk and classical, writing and performing with numerous bands and musicians, including recording for the Ninja Tune label.
He now lives in Bristol and performs solo, with the modern flamenco quartet Calima, with Robado, his jazz/flamenco quartet, and with a violinist, as Klezmer-Flamenco. He also teaches at Bath Spa University College.
Last year Kevin composed and performed, both solo and with Calima, the music for BBC’s primetime series, “Waking the Dead”. He also worked with Nihtin Sawney developing material for a new production at the National Theatre. His debut solo CD, “Las Cintas”, was recorded last year and is available from www.theguitarcircle.com
