Power Chords

Author: Justin Sandercoe

Power Chords are one of the first techniques you should try to master. They are used in most styles of playing but are mostly associated with rock and metal as they sound better than barre chords when played with lots of gain (distortion). There are many songs on this site that use power chords as the basis for riffs, you really should learn this now. Try to memorize the frets that the common chords are found on (i.e. the 3rd fret has G and C, the 5th fret has A and D etc.). Make up rhymes (3 Gray Cats, 5 Apple Donuts) or whatever you like. Do whatever it takes to get this in your memory. This is really important for your development as a guitarist.
